Sun spots - this phrase is loosely used and fairly non-specific, as is the term age spots. Perhaps the two most types of skin spots, or lesions which are described by the term sun spots or age spots are seborrheic
keratoses and actinic keratoses. Both may be affected by the sun, but the actinic keratosis is a precancerous, rather than a cosmetic lesion. The seborrheic keratosis is a brown, tan, or dark growth which often starts out flat, and lighter in color. At that point, some people may them liver spots. The growth thickens and darkens with time and may become quite elevated with time. These sun spots are most often
found on the face, particularly the temple areas, and also the backs of the hands. Sun spot growths which are seborrheic keratoses may be easily and rapidly removed by a number of methods, including surgical,
cryosurgical (freezing), or laser. Laser treatment is usually the most precise method of removal.
