Telangiectasia is enlarged visible but tiny blood vessels which are overgrown, and often found on the face. If more than one blood vesselis present, they are called telangiectasias. The term broken blood vessels is probably misused most of the time. Frequently, when someone is talking about broken blood vessels, they are referring to visible, enlarged blood vessels on the face. They are not actually broken blood vessels, just enlarged. These can occur anywhere on the face, or elsewhere. They most commonly occur on and around the nose, cheeks, and chin. Off the face, a larger type of enlarged blood vessel occurs which is called the spider vein. Sometimes the term spider vein is used for facial bood vessels as well. They are usually medically unimportant, but are frequently a cosmetic concern, because the blood vessels can be quite noticeable. They are easily removed by laser treatment if cosmetic removal is desired. |
