Does Liposuction Work?

Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed major cosmetic surgery procedures  in the U.S., even though it is far newer than other major cosmetic procedures.   How did liposuction become so popular, so fast?

The answer is simple: It  works.

Millions of people, many of whom are not even overweight or who are only  minimally overwieght, have tried diet after diet, toning and spot-reducing  exercises, spot reducing gadgets, fat-burner additives, and a myriad of other  "cures" just to bring body proportions into alignment.

If you are looking for a way to lose  weight, or prevent overall weight  gain, liposuction is not the answer.

But if your fat tends to localize in one area, or a few areas, and you are  happy with the rest of your shape, liposuction, in particular tumescent liposuction,  may offer the solution you  may have been searching for.

Done in the proper setting with proper precautions, and performed  with the newer & safer techniques, liposuction is safe

And, it is usually quite difficult for any significant amount of fat to come  back in the area treated by liposuction, although it is absolutely true that you  can easily gain weight elsewhere after liposuction.  But the change in  proportion is essentially permanent.  This is why so many patients and  physicians have become interested in liposuction.

Do other forms of spot reducing work?  For many, not very well.

We know that there are body areas which tend to preferentially enlarge when  one gains weight.  But these areas are also the last to slim down when we lose  weight. Why do some people tend to deposit their fat in some areas and some in  other areas?  The answer is probably genetic, at least in part.  Not all people who have a localized fat deposit have relatives with the same cosmetic problem, but many do.  Surely we all  know families in which many- if not all- members tend to  have the very same areas of localized fat deposits.

Many are bothered by these fatty "deposits."  They develop a greater sense of well-being, and greater confidence in  themselves after they rid themselves of the issue once and for all.
