Can liposuction be performed with local anesthetic only? Yes, in fact this is our routine. Many patients undergo liposuction with local anesthesia alone and no sedation or other pain-related medication whatsoever. Others prefer a Valium-like medication, or much less commonly a mild pain medication, but patients undergoing tumescent liposuction are awake, alert, and in control during the procedure.
