An office consultation
can help you and your doctor determine whether liposuction is appropriate in your case. Tumescent Liposuction is a procedure that works, works well, and under appropriate circumstances is very safe. So liposuction will be around for a long time. You have plenty of time to think about it, read more, or consult with someone else if you wish.
In our office, this is what a consultation is like:
Would the body area(s) in question be responsive to liposuction?
I try to determine this first. Most of our patients are well informed and have read up on liposuction to a considerable degree. So this is not usually an issue but occasionally it is (for example intra-abdominal fat, or attempting to lose weight via liposuction).
Can your expectations be met? Next, I try to determine whether you are going to be happy with the
results of liposuction. That is, will it actually achieve what it is that you want; and will you still be happy that you did it 15 years from now.
Ask any questions that you have.
We want you to get answers to all of your questions. It might be a good idea to write them down beforehand. Of course, you can call us afterward if you think of something else (nearly everyone does!).
If you are a suitable candidate, and you wish to proceed, a brief but thorough set of tests is done.
We will take a medical history, perform a brief physical examination, and obtain a blood sample for routine pre-operative tests. This is done to determine your general health status and whether the procedure will be safe for you.
We will work together with you to plan the optimal timing of the procedure for your schedule.
In our experience, the planning of the timing of the procedure, and the brief time off you may take off after it, are important to our
patients. Debbie is very good at helping patients determine what arrangements to make. We try to be as flexible as possible in making the timing of the procedure work well for you, for your
work schedule, social and vacation calendars, and so on. Most patients need merely a weekend (or less) off, but individual needs vary, depending upon occupation, times of the week that you normally
work, and other factors.
Often, it is helpful to discuss the procedure with a patient
who has gone through the tumescent liposuction procedure with us to get a firsthand account and additional answers to your questions from an another point of view. Our liposuction patients have been happy to discuss the procedure with those considering it, and Debbie can arrange for you to speak with someone who shares your occupation, body area(s) of concern, or other common interests.
We are quite familiar with handling the needs of our out of town liposuction patients.
