Liposuction surgeonsThe original liposuction surgeons, or the developers of liposuction, were gynecologists in Europe. Liposuction surgeons initially were all trained in Europe by visiting these doctors and observing the iposuction procedures they performed. Later, when liposuction came to the U.S., other specialists became interested in liposuction, studied in Europe and became the first liposuction surgeons in the U.S. The first American liposuction surgeons included dermatologists (developers of the tumescent technique for liposuction surgery) and plastic surgeons (who termed their technique "lipoplasty." Physicians from other disciplines became liposuction surgeons as well.
