Photos: Recurrent basal cell carcinomas have a much lower cure rate (approximately 60-70%) than primary (ie previously untreated) BCCs by standard techniques. The treatment of choice for recurrent basal cell carcinomas is usually Mohs micrographic surgery. Mohs surgery offers a cure rate of 95% or better, even for recurrent lesions. Note the irregular shape of the surgical defect after subclinical tumor extensions were cleared by Mohs surgery. On the right, an old skin graft from the previous excision can be seen.
