Shortly after the tumescent fluid is infused into the fat, its effects can easily be seen. This man is having his chest and abdomen treated. Note the blanching or whitening of the areas. the tumescent fluid temporarily decreases the blood flow to the fat and the skin of the area by causing the blood vessels to constrict. It is this blood vessel constriction which is responsible for decreased bleeding when tumescent technique is used rather than general anesthesia.
